Volunteer

Would you like to experience the Festival from behind the scenes?

It takes a lot of hard work behind the scenes to plan, build and run a Festival!

Would you like to join us for the weekend to enjoy the music and atmosphere whilst helping a friendly bunch of people to make a wonderful event run smoothly?

As a not-for-profit organisation, Wokingham Festival wouldn’t be possible without the help of our wonderful volunteers, and we’re always looking for enthusiastic people to join the fun and be part of our incredible team. In return you gain free access and other perks!

The majority of our volunteers support us during the Festival, and a small subset also help out beforehand and afterwards. We’ve got jobs for all abilities and ages, whether you fancy helping in the car park, on the ticket desk, merch desk, in the bar, litter picking, or a whole host of other tasks.

We’re a friendly, helpful bunch, and will never ask you to do anything beyond your capabilities.

We need far more volunteers during the festival than for setup / take down. The numbers needed from highest to lowest are:

  1. Saturday

  2. Sunday

  3. Monday

… and a much smaller subset of the team for:

  4. Setup / take down

  5. Flyer deliveries

During the festival, duties can include

  • Ticket desk at the gate - sell on-the-day tickets with a till that does all the arithmetic, or check in pre-paid ticket holders using an app on a tablet. Welcome all our visitors with a smile and wristbands (may be seated when quiet, but standing / walking when busy: 2-6 people at a time, depending on time of day)

  • Merch desk (mostly seated: 1 person at a time)

  • Bar (standing / walking - just beers, ciders and soft drinks, with a till that does all the arithmetic: 3-12 people at a time)

  • Litter picking and wheelie bin emptying (walking: 1-2 people at a time)

  • Car Park steward (occasional sitting when quiet, but predominantly standing / walking: 2-4 people at a time)

  • Silent Disco steward - clearing chairs from the WMC marquee after the last artist, and then handing out and collecting headphones on Saturday and Sunday evening (only needs 1 or 2 people for an hour or two)

  • Artist Gate steward - direct arriving artists to artist parking and stage; field any questions or direct them to the stage manager (a mix of sitting and a small amount of walking: 1 person at a time)

In addition to this, we need a small number of people for some additional duties before and after the Festival including

  • Leaflet deliveries to local residents (well before the festival)

  • Setup (Thursday - heavy construction and lifting)

  • Setup (Friday - mostly physical)

  • Take down (Tuesday - mostly physical)

We ask for a minimum of 5 hours of your time in a day over the weekend itself, and you’ll be free to make the most of the Festival for the rest of the time. For those of you who also help out with setup and breakdown, we’ll provide food and refreshments on the day.

If you are interested in joining our friendly team of volunteers, please send us your contact details via the form below.

We’ll use the information you give us to get in touch to ask for more detail about your availability, and your particular skills and interests nearer to the festival.

Please add volunteer@wokinghamfestival.co.uk to your contacts list, so that you don’t miss any messages from us.

Some messages will come directly from that email address, and we use Mailchimp for some group messages.

Thank you!
